The Indian digital medium is taking small steps into the world with some never seen before content. It is thrilling the audience like never before as there is ‘censoring’ of freedom of thoughts on this platform. However, not all are able to make the best use of the incredible opportunity presented to them.
Based on what we saw in the first episodes, City of Dreams helmed by Nagesh Kukunoor fails to make an impact. The issue is the same that we observe with most on the digital platform. It is the cheap production values and predictable and preposterous acting.
There is a feeling that the web series is made to cash in on the frenzy without any serious thought going into it. The content definitely has moments, which is the brighter side, but they are seldom fully realised and are cop-out exercises.
City of Dreams, coming from Nagesh Kakukunoor is a disappointment as it is nothing but an umpteenth rehash of the iconic Godfather with a few gender changes. It is as if Nagesh has decided that when everyone has their version of the gangster saga why he shouldn’t have one.
There are still a few episodes to go, so, let’s see if there is an improvement in the content or not. As of now, into the third episode, there is not much hope. Watch this space as we update the review of City of Dreams, a Hotstar special.
