Emmy Awards 2022: New Records Made, Check Quick Facts

The 74th Emmy awards are finally here though we are not surprised to know who the winners are. OTT platforms have proved to be the future of the entertainment industry once again. The Squid Game doll on stage seemed to be the most important celebrity at the ceremony, Jung Ho-yeon joked that it’s good luck everybody is making it up there past that doll as she and Squid Game co-star Jung-Jae made their way up the stage. Kenan Thompson hosted the ceremony for the first time and he repeatedly roasted Netflix with jokes for the price hikes and many more. HBO and HBO Max surge past Netflix for the first time in history. HBO shows won a tremendous amount of 12 awards with a total of 37 in Creative Arts and Primetime shows. Netflix got 26 awards with only 3 for Primetime.

Apple TV+ has been streaming for 3 years, but it has never been as big as it is now. The platform earned a total of 52 nominations in 13 different titles this year with HBO, HBO Max and Netflix getting 140 and 104 nominations respectively.

The first award of the night went to Michael Keaton for ‘Dopesick’ in the category of best actor in a limited or anthology series. This is the first Primetime Emmy win for the actor as well.

Zendaya wins the Emmy for best actress in a drama series for her role as a troubled teen in ‘Euphoria’. She also got the award in the same category in 2020. She has become the first Black woman to win the drama lead twice.

Quinta Branson is the first black woman to earn three nominations in the comedy categories in the same year. She won the Emmy for writing in a comedy series category for ‘Abbott Elementary’.

‘Succession’ wins in the category for best drama series for the second time after 2020.

‘Ted Lasso’ also wins in the category of best comedy series for the second time. It won in the same category last year also.

Mike White won back to back Emmys for ‘The White Lotus’ including major categories like outstanding writing, for a limited or anthology series, outstanding direction for the same and many more. The show had 10 wins in total being the most awarded show of this year.

Sherlock Lee Ralph takes home her first Emmy for Abbott Elementary with winning outstanding supporting actress. ‘Succession’ earned Matthew Macfadyen his first Emmy as well.

Julia Garner wins her third Emmy for Netflix crime drama ‘Ozark’. She previously won the two Emmys for the same role. She was also nominated for ‘Inventing Anna’.

Lee Jung Jae becomes the first actor from a non-English show to win an Emmy, he is the fourth Asian to win the prestigious award but the first one to win in the Best Lead Actor category for his performance in ‘The Squid Game’. This is great news for Koreans as well as Asians.

The Hulu original ‘Only Murders In The Building’ received 17 total nominations and won three in sound mixing, production design, and guest actor in a comedy. But it missed out on all the major categories.

‘Better Call Saul’ has to go empty-handed after so many nominations, which is quite a shock to the fans.
