The much-awaited 74th Primetime Emmy Awards were held today at Los Angeles’ Microsoft Theater. The Emmy Awards 2022 were hosted by Kenan Thompson, the first time of hosting the Emmys for the Saturday Night Live star.
Though HBO’s ‘Succession’ had garnered the most nominations for a show at 25 noms, it was another HBO show that left a mark tonight. HBO’s ‘The White Lotus’ swept most of the Emmys for Limited Series – 5 in all, including best writing, directing and best limited series. It is also the most wins by any show tonight.
There was no clear leader in the drama series category. Netflix’s Korean hit series ‘Squid Game’ nabbed several awards, as did HBO’s ‘Succession’ and ‘Euphoria’. Squid Game won the crucial Best Directing and Best Actor (Lee Jung-jae) awards tonight, while HBO’s ‘Succession’ won the Best Drama Series Emmy.
Apple TV Plus’ ‘Ted Lasso’ grabbed the maximum Emmys for comedy series, 4 in all, its second time of doing so.
Hulu had a good showing at the Emmys this year. It picked up both Best Actor and Best Actress awards in the limited series category, for Michael Keaton (Dopesick) and Amanda Seyfried (The Dropout), respectively.
