Emmy Winner Delhi Crime: The Lasting Impression It Left

By Binged Bureau - Nov 24, 2020 @ 09:11 pm

Indian Cinema got recognized in the international forum once again when Delhi Crime won the Best Drama Series during the International Emmys 2020. Congratulatory messages have been overwhelmingly pouring in for everyone that has been part of this series. It surely does deserve all the congratulations at the moment, because this one has done the fans and people of India proud.

It definitely did win a big award but this one is a bit heavy because the story behind what inspired this series is heartbreaking and something that shook India to the core when it happened. The story is based on the real-life incident that took place some years ago in Delhi, when an unfathomable gang rape took place. The news blew up within hours of it happening and shook the nation throughout. Protests, candlelight marches were there day in and day out for the victim to get justice and as shown in the series, the police were in fact successful at catching those monsters that carried out such a heinous crime. All of them got jail time, but one didn’t as he got out after his time in the juvenile centre.

Nobody knows properly what actually went down that day and probably it’s for the best in some way that the world still doesn’t know the actual complete detail. Every girl in this nation heard about the story, every parent, and every male out there heard the story and there was a heaviness in every corner of the country. Everyone that gathered at least once mentioned about that incident and it became even grimmer when you utter it yourself. 2019, was the year when “Delhi Crime” came out and it immediately caught everyone’s attention. It rose to the top during its release and whoever watched the series felt all kinds of uneasiness after watching that.

When I myself watched that series, every evening when I took a public mode of transportation, for quite a few days a weird thought would always cross the mind, and the urge to reach my destination as soon as possible increased tremendously. It was not just me, no matter how many girls I hear, they all have that same fear after watching that series. It almost felt like this can happen anytime and anywhere and we wouldn’t even know. That was what the impact of the series was for I believe most of the women and girls out there. The way everything was well detailed was the part that gathered the most attention and could make you feel all sorts of uneasy.

The efforts of the Delhi Police and the lengths it went to catch the culprit was really impressive. I think the police in this case definitely did a much better job, when you look at it from the point of view the series was shown. This show will forever remain the kind where you will feel those emotions all over again no matter how many times you watch it and trust me if you haven’t watched it, it will make you feel worse than what a horror movie would make you feel.

No matter what, this was a well-executed series and it garnered attention in a very rightful manner. We can only hope that these types of shows are never again based on real-life incidents and no girl has to ever go through what the victim has gone through. For those who haven’t watched this series, this definitely is a must-watch for everyone because everyone should know the reality.
