Netflix declared recently that its much-awarded and appreciated series, The Crown, will have only five seasons and not six, as originally announced. The series will end at five eventful decades of the reign of Queen Elizabeth II, taking the narrative into the 21st century and ending soon after.
That means that there will be no dramatised version of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s much-publicised exit from the monarchy, or ‘Megxit’ as it has been dubbed – a play on Brexit. As per reports in the media, the show will mostly end with the end of Princess Diana’s era.
Also announced by Netflix is the rather interesting news about the choice of actress to play the Queen in the last season – it is Imelda Staunton, who will portray the elderly Queen Elizabeth II, taking over from Olivia Colman, who’s portraying the Queen in Seasons 3 and 4. Imelda Staunton, as we all know, is the English actress who played Professor Dolores Umbridge, the mean-spirited teacher for Defense Against the Dark Arts at Hogwarts in the Harry Potter movies.
