Most of the early Dwayne Johnson’s films did not sit well with audiences and critics. Making his Hollywood debut through The Mummy Returns (2001), Johnson has come a long way from the world of professional wrestling. The professional wrestler-turned-actor has worked in many popular movies, such as the Fast & Furious series, Hercules, San Andreas, Moana, the rebooted Jumanji series, and many more. The size and prominence of these movies have overshadowed some of his not-so-popular films, such as The Rundown (internationally known as Welcome to the Jungle), currently streaming on Netflix.
In The Rundown, bounty hunter Beck (Dwayne Johnson) gets a task to retrieve his boss’ son, Travis (played by Seann William Scott), from a Brazilian desert. Upon meeting him, Beck discovers that Travis is on a quest for an expensive artifact, leading them into conflict with Hatcher (played by Christopher Walken), the region’s tyrannical ruler. With some crucial aid from local bartender Mariana (Rosario Dawson), they deal with different sorts of danger and form an unlikely bond.
The film received mostly positive reviews from critics, who hailed it as a smart and funny buddy comedy flick. They also highlighted the outstanding chemistry between Dwayne Johnson and Seann William Scott. On Rotten Tomatoes, it has a ‘fresh’ critic score of 70%, based on over 150 reviews.
Helmed by Peter Berg, The Rundown is a production of Universal Pictures. Stream it now on Netflix. Enjoy!
