1962: The War In The Hills is the latest original show from Disney+ Hotstar. The period army drama show is based on the actual events between India and China. 1962 has been directed by Mahesh Manjrekar and stars Abhay Deol, Mahie Gill, Sumeet Vyas, Akash Thosar, Meiyang Chang and Anoop Soni in the lead roles.

1. The Forgotten Army – Amazon Prime Video

The Forgotten Army is a miniseries directed by Kabir Khan. The show tells the true story about the men and women of Indian Army who were recruited by Subhash Chandra Bose. The story focuses on the journey of solidiers from various battles during the pre independence era and also showcases how they marched towards the capital with the slogan ‘Chalo Dilli’.

2. Code M – Alt Balaji/Zee5

The story follows an army lawyer Monica Mehra who is assigned a seemingly open and shut case of an alleged encounter. However, when she digs in deep into the matter, she realises that the case is nothing as it has been made and involves big guns. Will she able to solve the case?

SonyLIV’s military drama debuted in 2020 during the lockdown period. Avrodh: The Siege Within, is a detailed storytelling of the 2016 Uri attacks and the followed surgical strike by the Indian Government.

6. The Test Case – Alt Balaji

The Test Case released on Alt Balaji in 2017 and opened up to rave reviews. The series stars Nimrat Kaur in the lead role as Captain Shikha Sharma. The show follows Shikha as she arrives in a group of training army officers being the only woman. Her role in the group is of a “test case” which will further decide if women should be included in the combat oriented roles in Indian army.

The show brilliantly showcases the stereotypes males have about women and beautifully breaks them too. Its Shikha’s journey to overcome the challenges of the society.

Jeet Ki Zidd

7. Jeet Ki Zidd – Zee5

This 2021 series is the utmost example of how self belief and determination can lead to big success in a person’s life. Jeet Ki Zidd stars Amit Sadh in the lead role along with Sushant Singh, Amrita Puri in supporting roles.

The story follows an army officer named Major Deep Singh Sengar who is left paralysed from waist down due to an accident in the war at Kargil. Now on wheelchair, Sengar with his never give up attitude and previous army training aspires to become successful in life while taking taunts from everyone around him.

21 Sarfarosh - Saragarhi 1897
8. 21 Sarfarosh – Saragarhi 1897

21 Sarfarosh is a brilliant adaptation of the real life famous battle which is etched in the history books of India. The show is based on the ‘Battle of Saragarhi’ and stars Mohit Raina, Mukul Dev, Alexx O’Nell, Prakhar Shukla and others.

The show premiered on Discovery Jeet in 2018 and it’s streaming rights were bought by Netflix. But the show is currently unavailable in Netflix. So whenever it comes around, be absolutely sure to watch it.

9. Fauji – MX Player

Last but not the least, the OG of shows based on the Indian army. This Shah Rukh Khan starrer became a household name at the time or it’s telecast in Doordarshan and made SRK a household name too. The show follows the training of an Indian Army commando regiment. While the show might be old for today’s generation, it is still considered as a cult classic in the Television industry.
