Shondaland’s upcoming Netflix original drama ’The Residence’ is a thrilling murder mystery and uses Kate Andersen Brower’s book ‘The Residence: Inside the Private World of the White House’ as an inspiration to kick start.

‘The Residence’ stars three-time Emmy-winning actor and ‘Orange Is The New Black’ fame Uzo Aduba in the lead role of Cordelia Cupp, a detective for the Metropolitan Police Department. Cordelia is described as a careful observer of human behavior with an eccentric and distinct conversational style that some may consider deeply unsettling.

Crew:
Paul William Davies (Scandal, For The People) serves as the showrunner and executive producer for ‘The Residence’ as part of his multi-year deal with Netflix. While the series uses Kate Andersen Brower’s book as a jumping point it isn’t filled with corpses and detective work, instead Davies has created an all new story that brings to life a murder-mystery unlike any other.
Liza Johnson (The Diplomat, Dead To Me, A Series of Unfortunate Events) has directed first four episodes of the series. It is executive produced by Shonda Rhimes along with her creative partner Betsy Beers as part of their overall deal with Netflix.
Storyline:
Set inside the White House, ‘The Residence’ is a comedic whodunnit revolving around the most disastrous state dinner in history and Cordelia is drawn into this investigation where she has to deal with 132 rooms, 157 suspects — and one dead body. The series explores the upstairs, downstairs and backstairs realms of the White House, shining a light on the eclectic staff of the famous presidential mansion.
