“Evil” Gets a TV Series Adaptation; SF Studios Boards to Produce

The 1981 novel “Evil” written by Swedish novelist Jan Guillou is appearing again on the silver screen in the form of a TV series. The novel was adapted into a movie in 2003. According to Variety.com, It has been decided this classical novel will be reprised again by SF studios and the series will be directed by Erik Leijonborg who is famous for the “Last Kingdom” series.

Isac Calmroth will play the lead character as Erick and opposite to Thea Sofie Loch Naess who is also a Last Kingdom fame. The other cast members include Gustaf Skarsgård, Ruth Vega Fernandez, Jens Hultén, Alexander Gustavsson, Christian Fandango, Saga Sarkola and Simon Norrthon. It is also notable that Gustaf Skarsgård who is the cast member of the 2003 movie version of Evil is also joining the cast.

“Evil” tells the story of a troubled young man named Erik. He lives in a house where his father is abusive. And in school he is a part of a gang that bullies other students. But when he goes soft on other students which members of the gang didn’t like, they trap him in a bad situation which paves his dismissal from school. As a result, he is transferred to the boarding school Stjernsberg. In the new school, he suffers violence. which is greater than in the home. Things go crazier when he falls into a forbidden relationship with Kitchen staff member, Marja.

Tobias Åström, producer at SF Studios said to variety “We aim to create a series that brings out the close and strong emotions and at the same time is a great and rich story”. The series is planned to release six episodes and Scandinavian streamer C More and Swedish broadcaster TV4 are set to bring the series on screen.

The series is expected to stream in 2023.
