Netflix revealed the first look of its next space feature film ‘The Midnight Sky’ directed by and starring George Clooney. The film is based on Lily Brooks-Dalton’s novel “Good Morning, Midnight”. Clooney describes Netflix’s ‘The Midnight Sky’ as Alfonso Cuaron’s Oscar-winning ‘Gravity’ meeting another Oscar-winner ‘The Revenant’ by Alejandro González Iñárritu.
‘The Midnight Sky’ is a post apocalyptic story about Augustine (Clooney), a lonely cancer-striken scientist in the Arctic “racing to stop a crew of astronauts from returning to home after a global catastrophe.” Augustine and a child named Iris (Caoilinn Springall) are the last survivors on Earth.
‘The Revenant’ screenwriter Mark L. Smith has written the project for Netflix, hence bringing his touch to ‘The Midnight Sky’, in a part of the film where Augustine and the child try to reach a remote observatory, with the hope of communicating with the spaceship, in the melting Arctic wading through the toxic air.
Other than Clooney, the film stars Felicity Jones, David Oleyowo, Tiffany Boone, Kyle Chandler, and Demián Bichir as astronauts. ‘The Midnight Sky’ will be produced by George Clooney, Grant Heslov, Bard Dorros and Keith Redmon.
George Clooney’s space saga, ‘The Midnight Sky’ is all set to launch on Netflix in December, 2020.
