Chris Hemsworth provided a new update about Extraction 3 at the San Diego Comic-Con 2024 event. The first Extraction movie (2020) introduced the dangerous mercenary, Tyler Rake, to the world, who was responsible for extracting the kidnapped son of a dangerous Indian drug lord in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Its 2023 sequel revolved around Rake getting hired to protect the family of an abusive crime lord from a highly-protected prison in Georgia.
In his recent interview with Collider at the SDCC event, Hemsworth gave an update about Extraction 3, discussing why the threequel was taking so long to come out on Netflix. The main reason for the movie’s release delay is that it is still in the early stages of development. The Thor actor, director Sam Hargrave, and The Russo Brothers want a strong story for the highly-anticipated threequel before moving ahead with the production. This is what Hemsworth said:
“We just wanna make sure that we have it right, and that we have a script that is good enough basically to follow the last two, because I’m really proud of what we’ve done previously, and hopefully we can do it again. It’s exciting, in the early stages of putting it all together. It’s a fun process.”
We witnessed Rake and Nik (played by Golshifteh Farahani) meeting Idris Elba’s character during the final moments of Extraction 2, who offers them a new mission in exchange for their freedom. While not many details about their new mission are out yet, the threequel’s title and the protagonist’s experience and skill set indicate that he will once again extract a high-value individual from a dangerous place, and the stakes will be higher than previous two movies.
As Extraction 3 is still in the writing stage, we should expect the third movie to hit Netflix in early 2026. We should also expect to see Chris Hemsworth, Golshifteh Farahani, and Idris Elba in this one. Stay tuned for more updates.
