With Irul and Joji having wrapped up its shooting and are currently in their marketing phase, it has been confirmed that both these movies are going to be premiering on Netflix. Although no release dates have been officially announced as of yet, we believe that both movies will be dropped in the coming months (hopefully by September). And once they drop, Fahadh Faasil who is playing a prominent role in both films will have released three movies directly for OTT streaming. Not only that, it also makes him the first Malayali superstar, and likely the first South-Indian star to have dropped three movies directly on OTT platforms and if they drop together, then it will be the first time a Malayali Superstar will have released three films back-to-back for OTT releases.
Irul completed its production last among the trio of (OTT to-be-released) films that were discussed earlier. Starring Fahadh Faasil and Soubin Shahir, the film recently got permission from the Film Chamber of Kerala to release the movie on an OTT platform. Nothing much about the movie has been revealed so far, besides the first look poster, so we will have to wait and see to get news about this particular Naseef Yusuf Izudheen directed venture.
Joji is probably the more anticipated movie among the three movies, as one has already been released for a few months now while the other has barely any information provided for people to be excited about. Adapted from Shakespeare’s Macbeth, Dileesh Pothan will direct this movie – making it his third collaboration with the lead actor Fahadh Faasil after Maheshinte Prathikaaram and Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum. Baburaj and Unnimaya Prasad will also be part of this brilliant adaptation; the third Indian film to be inspired by Macbeth – after Maqbool and Veeram.
The last film among this hattrick of films is also the first Malayalam movie to be made for the OTT audiences – CU Soon, which was shot completely on iPhone. Upon its release on Amazon Prime Video back in September 1st 2020, the movie went on to gain many positive reviews among critics and Amazon users, and the film went on to become a cult favourite, practically overnight. Portraying a software engineer, Fahadh Faasil provides us with an admirable performance alongside Roshan Mathew and Darshana Rajendran.
For now, we will have to wait for Netflix, the movie producers or its cast and director to give us an official announcement in regards to Joji and Irul. For the time being, check out the “third film from the list”, which is CU Soon, and it is currently available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
