See, ratings do matter a lot, especially for casual viewers. A show with good ratings draws attention from the fans, but sometimes glitches like these spread major misconceptions and wrong messages among the fans, which can affect the shows.
For a brief spell, the internet read that Fallout had an IMDb rating of 2/10. Now, that’s a low rating, but not impossible to achieve, but there is a major contrast. Platforms like Rotten Tomatoes are rating it as high as 93%.
But there was nothing wrong with the actual reviews on IMDb; the lowest-rated episode, ‘’The Beginning,’’ had a rating of 8.1. After this, such a low rating isn’t plausible, especially if you count all the reviews. There are now 32 reviews, and 18 of them are rated 10. It obviously has bad reviews as well; three reviews had a 1 rating and a couple with 2.
And what do these bad reviews have?
They are simply the reviews of hardcore video game fans, and for any show, you can expect that. But they aren’t in enough quantity to affect this rating and take it down as low as 2.
Later, it was realized that Fallout’s rating was glitched, as in a couple of hours and with almost no new reviews added, it skyrocketed to a whopping 8, which is good enough and can even increase by the weekend.
See, the show isn’t perfect, but bombarding it with a 2 rating is definitely a criminal act by IMDb. Though it won’t be as big of a hit as HBO’s The Last of Us, the show does have potential, and as the gates of Fallout open, there lie endless possibilities about the future of the franchise.
Funny part is, IMDb, which is actually owned by Amazon, is practically sabotaging their own show, Fallout, on Prime Video. The question lies, is this a publicity stunt?
If yes, then people will definitely question the authenticity of the platform. But, as it looks, this error regarding Fallout’s ratings might genuinely be an unfortunate glitch.
Also, talking about the glitch, it isn’t anything new for IMDb, as one of the biggest movies from last year suffered the same fate. Barbie, though it has 6.8 on IMDb, not the highest on the platform, opened with a glitchy 1 rating, which left the fans clueless during the opening of the film.
