While many ardent MCU fans are desperately waiting for the ‘Agatha All Along’ Disney+ series, there are some toxic fans that are strongly criticising a character from the show. The character’s name is Teen, played by Netflix’s Heartstopper fame Joe Locke.
Locke is facing some serious backlash for playing ‘Teen’ in the upcoming MCU project, mainly because his character is gay. The actor believes that Teen’s queerness is just one tiny aspect of his character. However, his character’s sexual orientation was enough to enrage some fans. Surprisingly, some of the criticism even came from the members of the LGBTQ+ community who feel that the character is just another “campy stereotype” from Marvel.
Locke told Variety he hadn’t given much thought to the backlash, as he was still overwhelmed by being part of the Marvel universe. This is what he said:
“I’ve never really thought about it,” Locke said. “It’s one of those things that gets a bit stressful if you think about it too much. But being in a Marvel series is the most pinch-me thing… The show never shies away from his queerness, but it’s not a defining feature of his character. It’s just one layer of him as a person.”
Joe Locke’s character is not the first LGBTQ+ representation in the MCU. Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie was also confirmed to be queer in Thor: Love and Thunder, which also starred the likes of Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Russell Crowe, Christian Bale, and more.
