Finally, after a long wait, Marvel Studios has unveiled the official trailer for The Fantastic Four: First Steps, starring Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach.
Pascal plays Reed Richards, aka Mister Fantastic—one of the most brilliant minds in the MCU. Alongside him, we have Kirby as Sue Storm, aka the Invisible Woman (Johnny’s sister, Reed’s wife, who can turn invisible and generate force fields—and is also pregnant with Reed’s child), Quinn as Johnny Storm (who can fly and control fire), and Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm, aka The Thing (whose body transforms into a layer of orange rock, giving him durability and superhuman strength).
The standout moment of The Fantastic Four: First Steps trailer is undoubtedly the reveal of Shalla-Bal’s version of the Silver Surfer (portrayed by Julia Garner). When the character was first announced, she faced intense criticism from a noticeable section of Marvel fans, who believed her inclusion was yet another hollow Disney push for wokeness and gender equality.
However, the overall character design and CGI work on Shalla-Bal look genuinely impressive. It’ll be interesting to see how this version of the Silver Surfer stands out in The Fantastic Four: First Steps, especially when compared to previous feature iterations of the iconic Marvel character.
We also get a closer look at the scale and destruction caused by Galactus, particularly during the final ten seconds of the trailer.
Based on the trailer, Pedro Pascal’s Reed Richards seems to be the central character, as he admits to “stretching the bounds of space.” His experiments appear to be the reason Shalla-Bal and Galactus arrive. On top of that, he’s about to become a father. All of this will likely weigh heavily on his shoulders. In First Steps, we could see Reed struggle to balance his duty to protect Earth with his role as a husband and father.
The rest of the cast includes Ralph Ineson as Galactus, along with John Malkovich, Paul Walter Hauser, Sarah Niles, Natasha Lyonne, Mark Gatiss, and more.
A cameo appearance by Robert Downey Jr. as Victor Von Doom, aka Doctor Doom, is also reportedly on the cards. Stay tuned for more updates.
