If there is one genre that K-Drama land aces like no other, that is Fantasy. Every year the industry churns one Fantasy hit after another and this has been the case since years now. Be it Aliens, Gumiho, Spirits, Grim Reapers or Goblins, Kdrama land has more than one show dedicated to each of these extra-terrestrial immortal beings. The 2021 fantasy show Bulgasal : Immortal Souls had a successful run and now the latest entry is “Tomorrow”. Ahead of the premiere of ” Tomorrow ” this Friday, let us have a look at some of the most popular fantasy k-dramas streaming on Netflix.

Guardian: The Lonely and Great God

A 939-year-old immortal goblin and protector of souls who is in search for his bride, who is the only one who can remove the sword piercing through his chest. The word “Goblin” became synonymous to lead actor Gong Yoo and the series was a cultural phenomena in 2016. This show continues to win hearts for its fantasy elements and a swoon-worthy love story of a Goblin who is cursed in his after-life and his human bride.

My Love from the Star
This is another sweet and engaging fantasy love-story centred around Do Min-joon (played by Kim Soo-hyun), an alien who landed on Earth during the Joseon Dynasty and a popular South Korean actress (played by Jun Ji-hyun). Watch out for a terrific screw-ball comedy turn from Jun Ji-hyun and Oh-so cute! romantic scenes between the duo!

A Korean Odyssey
This fantasy romantic comedy is loosely based on the Chinese novel Journey to the West. The drama is set during modern times where a trouble making Monkey King (played by Lee Seung Gi) is exiled to the human world because of his corrupt activities. He seeks to restore his status by devouring a special woman (Oh Yeon Seo) who has powers to see spirits. As a curse gets in way they end up working together to fight spirits while falling in love with each other.

Tale of the Nine Tailed
We’ve seen love-stories of Goblins, Monkey Kings and Aliens. Now it’s time for a Gumiho, aka Nine Tailed Fox. This show follows an ex-mountain spirit and a powerful gumiho, that lives in the human world. His duty is to eradicate worldly evils while he continues to search for the reincarnated version of his dead lover. The show has Lee Dong-wook aka our very own Grim Reaper from Goblin and his chemistry with Jo Bo-ah is off the charts.

The Legend of the Blue Sea
Now let’s get to the mermaids. Legend of the Blue Sea tells the story of a mermaid who falls in love with a human man. The series follows all the hardships and fun moments she faces to get to the love of her life. The series is equal parts funny and romantic as she tries to adjust to life on land. Jun Ji-hyun is of course terrific and single handedly drives the show.
