Around three years ago, it was reported that an ‘Alien’ series was being developed for the FX channel and was supposed to kick-off production in 2022. However, that didn’t happen because of the pandemic. Production finally commenced in July earlier this year. And now, we have the latest update on the show’s production plans and release window.
As per series showrunner and director Noah Hawley (the man behind acclaimed shows like ‘Fargo’ and ‘Legion’), the ‘Alien’ series will finally premiere sometime in the early months / first half of 2025. Yeah, it’s a rather disappointing update because we were expecting the show to come out sooner, but production was delayed because of the strikes. The show is planned to resume filming in February 2024 and will continue until around July. However, the majority of the show is yet to be filmed.
Now that the Alien series is slated for a premiere in 2024 first half, its release date will be around the same time when Fede Alvarez’s upcoming Alien movie ‘Alien: Romulus’ will be released in theatres on 16th August 2024.
Coming back to Noah Hawley’s ‘Alien’ series, the show features Syndey Chandler in the lead alongside Alex Lauther and Indian actor Adarsh Gaurav, etc. The story of the show will not take place in Nostromo, the commercial space vehicle which featured in the first ‘Alien’ movie. The ‘Alien’ series will be set around seventy years before the events of the cult 1979 film. So, the show will not revolve around the legendary protagonist Ripley, who was immortalized by Sigourney Weaver in the first four Alien ventures.
Until now, the audiences have witnessed six Alien films that include two prequel films. The first film along with the prequels were directed by Ridley Scott. And the second Alien movie ‘Aliens’ was helmed by ‘Avatar’ director James Cameron. ‘Alien 3’ was helmed by David Fincher and the fourth Alien movie ‘Alien Resurrection’ was directed by Jean-Pierre Jeunet.
Another good thing about the forthcoming ‘Alien’ series is that the original ‘Alien’ film director Ridley Scott is backing the new alien project. So, let’s keep our fingers crossed and hope that Noah Hawley can create similar magic with the ‘Alien’ series the way he did with ‘Fargo’ and ‘Legion’.
