Farhan Akhtar’s Toofan Skips Theatres, Opts For Direct To Digital Release!

By Binged Bureau - Mar 06, 2021 @ 03:03 pm

With theatres opening up and Bollywood back in the theatre business, fans are excited to see the upcoming movies releasing in theatres. Bollywood has been announcing movies one after the other and some of the biggest and much anticipated movies will finally be coming out this year. But, it looks like this is not the case for Farhan Akhtar’s upcoming sports film, “Toofan”. News is that, the Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra directed movie will be going for a direct to digital release and as per PeepingMoon.com the digital rights have been sold to Amazon Prime Video for releasing it in the month of May.

The movie was announced back in 2019 and the shooting for the movie was already over in March last year. The release of the movie got delayed due to inevitable spread of COVID-19 and the nationwide lockdown thereafter. The movie has received fame ever since its inception, which means that this movie could have been a blockbuster if it was released in the theatres. The plans for the movie to come out in theatres were definitely there, but it looks like everything has been cancelled and the movie will be coming to Amazon Prime Video, which have been sold at a massive amount to make it a profitable deal for both the sides.

It has been revealed that the makers have taken such a decision because even after everything has opened up and has started all over again, the COVID-19 cases in Maharashtra and other parts are rising once again. With daily reports of positive cases all over again, they felt that if the situation of COVID-19 came back once again, they would suffer huge loss. The decision to bring it directly for digital release has been made after much thought about people’s safety and also about the film’s profits and losses.

There hasn’t been an official announcement yet by Amazon Prime Video for the release date, but it seems like it will be disclosing it soon once everything falls into place. The movie stars Farhan Akhtar in the role of National Level Boxer. Other than that, Paresh Rawal, Mrunal Thakur and Isha Talwar have major roles in the movie. The movie is being produced by Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar. The movie has an apparent run time of 2 hours and 42 minutes and this also marks the second collaboration between Farhan and Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, first being for the superhit movie Bhaag Milkha Bhaag.
