As Binged already predicted, Netflix has already greenlit Heeramandi Season 2. And why not? It is the most successful Netflix India series ever. The views it received are almost double the usual Netflix India series.
But, this commercial success is not all. The series has some severe flaws in script and casting which led to vehement criticism by both audience and critics alike. No wonder the series is renewed, but those flaws need to be fixed.
Bibbojaan’s Gaj Gamini Walk will not help Bhansali or Netflix bank the series next season, but the script and better actors will. It is very important to think about whether Bhansali would direct the second season himself or he would assign some other protege to do so. Because Bhansali will get on to direct “Love and War” next. And, Netflix may not be in a position to delay the project for let’s say 4-5 years.
So, it is going to be another big factor. Most importantly, Heeramandi is a very geographically rooted word in Lahore’s Heera Mandi.
If the Tawaifs move to Kolkata and Mumbai then how will they justify the name Heeramandi in the second season?
To sum it up, Netflix India faces many challenges when it comes to Heeramandi. Let’s see how they tackle it in the second season.
