Maithili – Hindi language film ‘Dhuin‘ is finally getting an OTT release date on an Indian streaming platform. The film has consistently enthralled audiences at various film festivals that it has played in, around the world. After outings at the Cannes Film Festival, Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival, Dharmashala International Film Festival, Habitat International Film Festival, and MoMA New York, ‘Dhuin’ is all set to arrive on streaming in India. The film premieres on MUBI in India on February 10, 2023.
‘Dhuin’ comes from the deft hand of Achal Mishra, whose earlier film ‘Gamak Ghar’ is a luminous though poignant study of the family system in India, and its connection with the ancestral home. ‘Dhuin’ tells the story of a 25-year old street theater actor, who dreams of making it big in the cinematic hub of Mumbai, but is held back by familial obligations, his relative inexperience and lack of connections. The protagonist Pankaj is played by Abhinav Jha, while the film is set in the backdrop of small town Bihar, in Darbhanga.
Achal Mishra has produced and directed the crisp 50 minute film, Dhuin. Besides Abhinav Jha, the film stars Bijay Kumar Sah, Prashant Rana and Ankush Prasad in pivotal roles. Dhuin has been shot in the 4:3 aspect ratio, which is used by directors looking to map the mental landscapes of characters. ‘Dhuin’ was picked up for release in the US market upon its premiere at Cannes.
The official synopsis of ‘Dhuin’ reads, “Pankaj is a theatre performer from a small town who wants to succeed in Mumbai. He must measure his goals against his responsibilities towards his family, which is suffering financially as a result of the lockdown and make a decision.”
Dhuin streams in India on MUBI, from February 10. Have a look at the trailer of the film
