Manoj Bajpayee starrer ‘Joram’ made its world premiere at the 52nd International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR), 2023 and was also part of the selections at India’s Film Bazaar Recommends (FBR) earlier this year. The much anticipated film has finally got a theatrical release date.
‘Joram’ went on to be part of various other film festivals including Sydney, Edinburgh and Durban, where Bajpayee won best actor and Piyush Puty best cinematography, with Chicago being the next. The film is currently playing at the Busan International Film Festival and is set for global theatrical release this December.
A survival thriller drama by Devashish Makhija, ‘Joram’ is the story of a displaced indigenous man named Dasru (Manoj Bajpayee). The film follows a bereaved father who must be on the run with his little baby girl across half the country to escape the ghosts of his past and the forces that want him dead at any cost.
Mohd. Zeeshan Ayyub (‘Scoop’, ‘Bloody Brothers’, ‘Haddi’) plays the role of a weary Mumbai cop in pursuit of Dasru. Then there’s a sinister tribal lawmaker, played by Smita Tambe (‘Sacred Games’). Other acclaimed actors that make special appearances in the film are Tannishtha Chatterjee and Rajshri Deshpande.
Makhija and Bajpayee have earlier delivered works like short film ‘Taandav’ and the highly acclaimed film ‘Bhonsle’ for which Bajpayee even won the National Award. Though ‘Joram’ will be their first film together to get a theatrical release.
‘Joram’ is produced by Anupama Bose and Devashish Makhija for Makhija Film Pvt Ltd and Zee Studios. Piyush Puty handles the cinematography for the film. ‘Joram’ will release worldwide in cinemas on 1st December, 2023.
