Final Blow To Creativity on OTT Coming Soon?

Indian OTT started on a very creative and bold note. Filmmakers, storytellers and actors who didn’t have access to mainstream Bollywood would entertain and show their craft through OTT. It was bold, unapologetic and true to the craft of cinematic storytelling.

However, this boldness seems to have fallen in the last few years. The mainstream Bollywood producers have taken up against the small and visionary creators and naturally, money power caused those creators to be marginalised even on OTT. That’s why we are seeing films of popular actors on OTT but a talent like Abhishek Banerjee is nowhere to be seen in the popular space of OTT.

And these are the things that caused creativity to almost die in the OTT space. But a bigger blow is waiting and it is the same blow that killed any creativity whatsoever on Indian Television in the 2000s to 2010s.

We are talking about Ekta Kapoor’s serials. The highly successful producer is planning to release Kyuki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi on OTT.

Wait, not just release but make an entirely new version of the show. Times have changed and people don’t have the same preferences as they had 20 years ago but if this works out then perhaps nothing else will work out in the future of Indian OTT.

Let’s hope for the best.
