Sima Taparia from Mumbai will be back! After more than a year of uncertainty, and hanging in the “will it, won’t it” zone, India-centric dating reality show ‘Indian Matchmaking‘ has been renewed at Netflix. Two other reality shows have also been renewed by Netflix along with Indian Matchmaking. They are ‘The Circle’, which has been renewed for Seasons 3 and 4, and ‘The American Barbecue Showdown’, which has been renewed for Season 2, just like Indian Matchmaking.
Additionally, Netflix has ordered a new unscripted show, titled ‘The Roaring Twenties’. The new show will follow a bunch of twenty-somethings as they live and learn to navigate life in Austin, Texas.
But the most interesting development on the reality show front is that Netflix is massively upping its stake in the unscripted series genre. The streaming giant has recently commenced a dedicated new site “NetflixReality.com” to source talent for its reality show slate. Netflix has just sent out its largest ever open casting call for a wide variety of reality series. Interested candidates can submit a video of themselves across a wide variety of reality genres at the NetflixReality.com site.
The most exciting part of the casting call is that Netflix is encouraging people to send in the videos of their particular talents even if there’s no ongoing or upcoming reality show in that particular category at present. It encourages people to send in their videos showcasing their talents solely on the premise that, if not now, there could be a show in their particular skill set in the future.
Brandon Riegg, Vice President of Unscripted and Documentary Series at Netflix, has this to say for its new reality series casting call, “Whether you love competition or cooking, dating or decor, style or a social experiment, we might have a show for you — either now or someday soon. Just select a category and submit your casting video to be considered for future seasons. To register, you must be 18 years or older, and right now we’re focused on the US, Canada, and the UK. No need for ring lights or glam, just be the real you!”
Quite cool, we must say. It is a great opportunity for young talented folk out there, who have the skill but not a platform to showcase their panache. With this new initiative, Netflix has thrown the field wide open for aspiring youngsters, and even talented people from older generations.
Netflix’s Indian Matchmaking is a dating reality show, created by award-winning creator, Smriti Mundra. It centres on the typical Indian tradition of having a matchmaker bring two people together – what we call arranged marriages in India. Sima Taparia from Mumbai is the matchmaker who goes about bringing men and women together in the Netflix show.
Indian Matchmaking is produced by Industrial Media’s The Intellectual Property Corporation (IPC), LLC, and executive produced by Aaron Saidman, Eli Holzman, Smriti Mundhra and J.C. Begley.
