Suriya’s latest film Retro has been creating quite a buzz ever since it hit theatres earlier this May. Directed by Karthik Subbaraj, the movie pairs Suriya with Pooja Hegde for the first time, and fans were really excited to see them together on the big screen. The film is packed with action, emotions, and some stylish storytelling, as expected from the director. While the movie did well in some parts of Tamil Nadu, it didn’t quite impress everywhere. More importantly, the box office collections were heavily conflicting. After the disastrous response to Kanguva, Suriya badly needs some big commercial hits, and Retro is one of the same.
It is a typical Tamil movie with an aggressive narrative. It covers from the 1960s to the 1990s and talks about the journey of a man who was adopted and later turned to the gangster business. Of course, there is no creativity in this sort of gangster bildungsroman but we expect better from Suriya.
Now, there’s good news for those who didn’t get a chance to watch it in cinemas. Retro is all set to stream on Netflix starting May 31, 2025. It will be available in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada. So if you’ve been waiting to catch it from the comfort of your home, the wait is almost over.
