First Look At Sony’s ‘Until Dawn’ Video Game Live-Action Adaptation

Sony has dropped the official first look clip for its live-action feature adaptation of Supermassive Games’ Until Dawn. Directed by David F. Sandberg, the movie is written and produced by Gary Dauberman.

The clip opens with Dauberman, who expresses his love for the original video game and focuses on its cinematic approach, explaining how their upcoming feature adaptation differs. Soon, we see a group of friends entering a seemingly innocuous house. However, as they settle in, chaos ensues, and they realise the house itself is a trap.

One of the things that stands out in the clip is the revelation that the filmmakers have not followed the video game’s storyline. Instead, they’ve opted for a completely different narrative, which is a bold and intriguing approach.

Dauberman, the movie’s writer and producer, shared that he focused on continuing the game’s story in a way that avoided “recreating the same experience players had while gaming.” Meanwhile, Sandberg explained that while the film maintains the tone and vibe of the original, it expands the Until Dawn universe.

The original interactive video game by Supermassive Games (published by Sony Computer Entertainment) was released in 2015. It incorporates a butterfly effect system, where player decisions significantly alter the storyline. Depending on the choices made, any of the characters can survive or die. Gameplay involves exploring the environment from a third-person perspective and uncovering clues to solve the overarching mystery.

Until Dawn features a young cast, including Ella Rubin, Michael Cimino, Ji-young Yoo, Odessa A’zion, Maia Mitchell, and more. Alongside them, we see veteran actor Peter Stormare (John Wick: Chapter 2). Here’s the first look clip!
