First Look of HBO Max’s The Staircase Revealed

Exclusive images of HBO Max’s upcoming mini-series ‘The Staircase’ were revealed by Vanity Fair. The Staircase is a true crime drama created and written by Antonio Campos and Maggie Cohn. It is based on the 2004 true crime docuseries of the same name created by Jean-Xavier de Lestrade.

The images revealed in a Vanity Fair report shows it stars Colin Firth and Toni Collette. Colin Firth plays the role of Michael Peterson a writer convicted of murdering his wife Kathleen Peterson, played by Toni Collette, who was found dead at the bottom of the staircase in their home.

The events of Staircase were originally documented in 2004 as a 2004 French mini-series. It initially had eight episodes. A ninth episode of the documentary was released in 2013 after Michael Peterson was granted a new trial due to a witness’s misleading testimony. The documentary eventually ended up with 13 episodes on Netflix.

The series tracks Michael Peterson’s – a crime novelist – trial for the murder of his wife. The upcoming show is said to be a passion project for Antonio Campos. Campos has been researching the events for more than a decade. In Colin Firth and Toni Collette, the show has a strong cast. Colin Firth is an Academy Award winner and Toni Collette is a golden globe award winner.

The show over the last decade has inspired many such true-crime dramas. This subject itself has been an inspiration for a number of podcasts. The show is expected to be released on HBO Max. No release date is announced for the project but is set to premiere during Spring of 2022.
