Five Films For Freedom: JioTV Celebrates Love

Celebrating its commendable 10 year milestone, the Five Films For Freedom Campaign continues its legacy of amplifying LGBTQIA+ voices across the globe. This year, the initiative revealed 5 new short films from different parts of the world, namely India, Spain, Philippines, UK and the USA. Presented in cooperation with the BFI Flare: London LGBTQIA+ Film Festival, the British Council has stated that this year’s lineup has promising narratives exuding resilience and originality.

From March 13 to 24th, audiences can immerse themselves in these beautiful stories through JioTV, as they are the official streaming partner in India for this campaign. The short films- “Compton’s 22”, “Cursive”, “Halfway”, “First Kiss”, “Little One” – all bring about heartfelt retrospections on the concepts of identity, familial bonds, and the unending pursuit of acceptance. By broadcasting these movies, viewers everywhere are invited to engage in meaningful dialogue and inculcates empathy.

Since its onset, the annual Five Films For Freedom initiative has transcended geographical restraints, reaching out to over 23 million viewers across 200 countries in just over a 100 days. It stands as a testament to the idea that love is a fundamental human right. In India, the campaign plans to conduct 12 screenings spread out over 10 cities, which are Kolkata, Gangtok, Agartala, Shantiniketan, Bengaluru, Chennai, Mumbai, Delhi, Ahmedabad, Goa. The partnership with JioTV makes sure that such an event is accessible to anyone and everyone, so make sure to tune in.
