For those fans who enjoyed Blumhouse’s Five Nights at Freddy’s this year, get ready to hear disappointing news about its sequel. One of the film’s executive producers, Ryan Turek, revealed that Blumhouse has yet to greenlight Five Nights at Freddy’s 2.
“That movie [Five Nights at Freddy’s] made so much money,” Turek said. “It was a huge success, and we’re grateful for that. Emma [Tammi] did such a great job, but we’re still waiting for the green light on that. We’ll see… No, it’s not crazy. It’s just part of the process, I think… I’m sure Jason’s got some tricks up his sleeve.”
We do not know why Jason Blum and his team are waiting to give the green light to the sequel. Its 2023 predecessor turned out to be a surprising financial success during its theatrical run, earning over $290 million globally against its $20 million budget. While critics hated it, the fans loved the movie with all their hearts. On Rotten Tomatoes, the film received an impressive audience score of 87%, against a critic score of 32% (based on over 210 reviews). It was undoubtedly one of the most divisive films of 2023.
The first Five Nights at Freddy’s film came out after being in the developmental process for many years. Maybe that’s why Blumhouse does not want to take any risk with its sequel. Or it may be the studio’s strategy to concentrate more on the sequel to make it better than the first film. The second film definitely needs a strong screenplay to impress both critics and fans.
Taking inspiration from Scott Cawthon’s video game series, Five Nights at Freddy’s has talents like Josh Hutcherson, Elizabeth Lail, Matthew Lillard, Piper Rubio, and more. Stay tuned for more updates.
