Five Underrated Horror Films Which Are Enough To Give You Chills!

What do we like to watch most in our leisure times? I mean apart from all those dramas, all those kick-ass action films and all those romantic comedies, what do we love most? The answer is – horror films. And it gets more juicier when we suddenly come across a surprise horror content, which scares the hell out of you in a very satisfying manner. Now we have come across five horror films which will surely give you that satisfying scary vibe.

Check the list out for yourself and find out if you are going to be scared or not.

1. Howl (2015)

HowlA lesser known British independent horror film, Howl is actually a scary film which goes unnoticed most of the time. The plot of Howl revolves around a number of passengers on a night train stuck near a jungle where they must unite to face and defend themselves from a dangerous and bloodthirsty creature from the local folklore. This film gives you an extremely chilling ambiance from its atmosphere and the horror sequences. Howl is available on Amazon Prime Video and we think you should not miss it.

2. The Ruins (2008)

The RuinsThe Ruins is actually one of the creepiest films of this generation which is also highly underrated. The film is an adaptation of a horror novel by American author Scott Smith, set on Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula and the story revolves around four friends and their vacation which turns dark when they wind up in a ancient archeological site and strange Carnivorous vines try to ensnare the friends in their tendrils, forcing the group to fight for survival. Available on Netflix, The Ruins is bound to give the creeps and chills of a lifetime.

3. Us (2019)

UsAn extremely unusual horror film in recent times, Us features Academy Award winner Lupita Nyong’o who’s character Adelaide and her family are attacked by a group of menacing look-alikes dressed in red. An extremely unusual horror film with a unique concept, Us is definitely a 2019 masterpiece and One of the most critically and commercially successful movies of that year. This film is alway available on Netflix for you to check.

4. Naina (2005)

NainaOne of the two Indian titles in the list, Naina is considered a horror film ahead of its time. And we feel it was actually ahead of its time given the crown back in early 2000s and the controversies around it upon release. This film is actually the adaptation of 2002 Hong Kong-Singaporean horror film The Eye. The story of Naina centers around a visually impaired girl, Naina played by Urmila Matondkar, who gets back her lost vision by cornea transplant operation and starts seeing inevitable deaths and evil visuals. With the pattern of story telling and the visual treatment of the film, Naina is a piece of horror which you should not miss. Naina is available in Disney+ Hotstar VIP/Premium.

5. Tumbbad (2018)

TumbbadProbably one of the most underrated and highly satisfying horror films ever made in India, Tumbbad is an exceptional piece of work by director Anand Gandhi. The story of Tumbbad set in Maharashtra of British era where a treasure fanatic Vinayak Rao played by Sohum Shah who is also the co-producer of the film, search for a hidden treasure in the village of Tumbbad where a shrine for Hastar, an undead monster who is never to be worshipped is situated. Soon, Rao faces catastrophic consequences when he attempts to get their hands on his cursed treasure. A ‘must-watch’ for every single horror lover, Tumbbad is available for you to enjoy via Amazon Prime Video. An entrant in Brooklyn Horror Film Festival, Tumbbad notably received eight nominations at the 64th Filmfare Awards winning three for Best Cinematography, Best Art Direction and Best Sound Design.
