If there were no delays or strikes, the picture would have been completely different. But as of now, the stars have aligned for Five Nights At Freddy’s, as Dune 2 is now postponed until next year. It’s a perfect underdog story for FNAF.
In terms of box office, it goes completely against its genre, and it’s all good and butterflies as it is still flying high. Though the movie observed a ginormous dip compared to last week, it is still big enough to conquer the top spot.
Despite the 76% decline in ticket sales, Five Nights At Freddy’s grossed $19M in the domestic market. And when you factor in that it is also streaming on Peacock, such a high number in box office sounds like a dream tale.
Although Peacock doesn’t have as many subscribers as its competitors, it’s good enough to make a dent. Yet the movie crosses $113M domestically, and as a global box office hit, it grossed $217M in terms of global box office.
It has also become the highest grossing horror film of the year, overtaking some big names such as Scream VI, M3GAN, and The Nun II.
Taylor Swift also continued her symphony of success as The Eras Tour clinches the second spot. In terms of gross numbers, the movie is already at $231M in global box-office. In terms of the weekend, the documentary film collected a respectable $13.5M.
On the other hand, the Martin Scorsese creation is still underperforming, grossing $7M this weekend, making it the third best film in terms of domestic box-office. The movie just crossed the triple-digit threshold but it could have been miles better.
The long runtime (though in the case of Oppenheimer, it didn’t come out as such a big reason) and strong box office competition make the stats look as such. If you talk about the quality of the film, it screams greatness as the collection of stars in no way underperforms.
The demography is destined to change soon as the market will be elevated with a Marvel movie on 10th November. Though the expectations for the movie are not very high among fans, it will certainly appeal to them, and for a short span of time, they will reign supreme over the box office.
