Disney has been quick to sense the threatening potential of the pandemic caused by Covid-19 coronavirus. They joined others in postponing their arrivals but additionally made a move to bring the digital releases earlier than planned.
Some of its blockbusters hit cinemas late last year. They were slated to arrive digitally in the second half of the current year, but have got an early debut. And now, many other production houses are planning the same with its recent films. These are the movies that got cut short theatrically due to coronavirus.
One among them is Sonic The Hedgehog. It was running to blockbuster numbers theatrically before the pandemic led to the closure of theatres. The movie will be available digitally from March 31st. Pixar’s Onwards, and other latest releases like Bloodshot, The Way Back etc. will also be available soon.
Some of the production houses are also providing the latest releases for digital renting. The Invisible Man, The Hunt etc. will be available this way for forty-eight hour period.
Apart from these ‘already released’ or theatrical truncated movies, the production houses are also planning to provide a few yet unreleased titles for rent. We have to see how well these attempts materialize given how the people are fear-stricken.
