Following the loss of IPL streaming rights and HBO content at the hands of Jio Cinema, Disney+ Hotstar was left with a huge scar to heal. It tried to bandage it with providing free streaming of the recently finished Asia Cup and the much awaited ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup, though only for the mobile app.
But it looks like this wasn’t enough for Disney+ Hotstar to gain its original strength as the streamer has now announced free streaming for some of its exclusive movies and web series. These include films ‘Brahmastra’, ‘Vikram’, ‘Freddy’, and more. This time again the free version will be available only for mobile app.
This move from Disney+ Hotstar comes as yet another attempt to regain its lost subscribers, specially the ones taken away by Jio Cinema and its lucrative yet market disruptive strategies.
While the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup free streaming should prove to be quite beneficial for Disney+ Hotstar (given the game insane popularity in the country), it will be interesting to see how the free streaming of some of its movies and series scheme plays out.
