The long wait for Telugu film Manu on the digital platform has come to an end. It is streaming on Netflix from today (August 1st). Manu had released theatrically on September 7th 2018.
Written and directed by Phanindra Narsetti, Manu is a unique idea and execution within a Telugu cinema framework. It is highly indulgent and moody with a lot of emphasis on visuals, music and silence rather than dialogues.
The length of the movie was the most significant deterrent theatrically as it runs close to three hours. Raja Goutham, son of legendary comedian Brahmanandam, is the hero. Chandini Chowdhary was the heroine opposite him. The love story between them is uniquely crafted with a sensibility that is rarely seen in movies today. The climax, along with the love story, is the high point of the film.
Upon its release, Manu was panned by the critics for its narration and length primarily. Those shouldn’t be a problem for digital viewing. One can now relish the true beauty of the movie by just going with the flow as the director had envisioned. It is as if Manu has finally found his home.
