Dhanush-starrer Asuran had received rave reviews when it had first released in theatres. Both, critics and viewers, had given a resounding thumbs up to the flick, and it went on to mop up more 100 crores at the box office. Critics unequivocally declared it to be a not-to-be-missed movie.
Asuran has been produced by Kalaipuli S Thanu, under his production house V Creations, and directed by Vetrimaaran. The film is based on the novel Vekkai by Poomani. Besides Dhanush, the movie features Manju Warrier, Pasupathy, Ken Karunas, Teejay Arunasalam and Prakash Raj in pivotal roles. It marks the debut of Manju Warrier in Tamil cinema.
