From Comic-Con To Chaos: The Troubled Journey Of Marvel’s Blade Reboot

It seems like Marvel Studios has no idea what to do with Mahershala Ali’s Blade. The production house is having trouble getting the new Blade movie off the ground. A recent report from The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that both Ali and Marvel have grown frustrated by the reboot’s prolonged development procedure.

According to THR, Marvel plans to rewrite Blade’s script and then look for a worthy director. This comes only days after Yann Demange left the project.

MCU’s Blade was announced first at the 2019 San Diego Comic-Con event. Since then, the project has been stuck in developmental hell. The leading man, Mahershala Ali, is yet to make his official MCU on-screen debut. The actor provided a voice cameo as the iconic vampire hunter in the post-credits scene of Eternals (2021).

If Marvel Studios is planning to rewrite the reboot’s script, then a lot of things could change. For instance, Mia Goth’s role in the movie could be altered. According to online rumors, Goth was supposed to play the popular vampiric antagonist, Lilith, in the reboot. However, we don’t know which version of the character she was going to portray. In the comics, different versions of Lilith have appeared. For instance, she has been introduced as Dracula’s eldest child. Plus, she has interacted with other superheroes apart from Blade, such as Doctor Strange and Ghost Rider. However, there are some versions of Lilith in the comics where she’s not just a vampire, but also an ancient demon.

Since its official announcement, MCU’s Blade reboot has lost two helmers, endured multiple production setbacks due to the Hollywood strikers, and underwent plenty of substantial rewrites. Now, Marvel plans to rewrite the movie’s script again. Oh, God! This could unfortunately lead to Mia Goth losing her role as Lilith in the film.

In addition to the potential impact on Goth’s role, the release window for Blade may also be affected by the script rewrite. The reboot is currently scheduled for a theatrical release on November 7, 2025. We’ll keep you updated on any further developments.
