How exciting the journey will be!
In this film, we step back to a time before the 2019 photorealistic remake and even before the classic 1994 cartoon. Rafiki, the wise baboon, shares tales of old with Kiara, daughter of Simba and Nala, recounting the legendary saga of her grandfather, Mufasa, amidst the vast African savanna. “The Lion King” was one of seven Disney films to cross the billion-dollar mark that year. Since the pandemic, though, only six films in total have notched that coveted benchmark.
Jenkins, known for his acclaimed work on “Moonlight” and “If Beale Street Could Talk,” is now at the helm of “Mufasa,” the prequel to “The Lion King.” Coming from projects with more modest budgets, Jenkins humorously reflects on his transition from indie filmmaking to taking on the grandeur of a “Lion King” prequel.
As someone who holds the original “Lion King” close to my heart and has always been fascinated by Mufasa’s untold story, I believe that the announcement of this prequel is like a dream come true. It’s an opportunity to dive back into cherished memories while also venturing into uncharted territory. The anticipation of witnessing the magic come to life on the big screen this 20 December 2024 is almost too much to bear!
