Furiosa And Garfield Fights On A Lackluster Box-office Battle

Mondays are always an exciting time, especially for the number nerds. But this week didn’t go as well as planned. Considering the Memorial Weekend, the run hasn’t been so memorable after all.

“Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga” has been the most hyped film of the summer, and it fell flat. With just $25M in the domestic market and $33M internationally, it didn’t even come close to the first film of the franchise.

It’s not new for the franchise to have a mediocre opening. “Mad Max” had the same fate but later climbed the ladder. In the domestic market, “Mad Max” opened with $45M, so this is definitely an observable dip.

Though this week had immense potential, it ended in a misfire. Especially for “Furiosa,” as its domestic run of $25M was supposed to be as much as $45M, showcasing the poor state of the box office right now. But it’s not alone.

“The Garfield Movie,” on the other hand, isn’t having a great run critically but is equally effective when it comes to box-office numbers. It is sitting in the second spot, just a bit short of $25M.

Paramount and John Krasinski’s “IF” is sitting in third place with $16.1M. Though it has a higher budget than “The Garfield Movie,” the path is definitely tougher. Despite receiving tough criticism, its box-office run is definitely a mediocre one.

It is followed by “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes,” which started with some strong stats but later began to fade into oblivion. With $13.4M in the current week, “Ape” didn’t run as strong as “Godzilla.”

“The Fall Guy” is also rapidly heading towards failure. The big-budget film just grossed $5.9M this weekend, marking a weak finale for the stars of “Barbenheimer.”

“The Strangers Chapter 1” also had a mediocre week, with just $5.6M. The film grossed $22M overall in the domestic market. Talking about debutantes, “Sight” had a $2.7M debut, which isn’t too bad for a debutant.

The rest of the spots were occupied by “Challengers” with $1.4M, “Back To Black” with $1.1M, and “Babes” with $1M.
