Furiosa’s Disastrous BO Run Preponing The VOD Release?

Talking about disasters, “Furiosa” had the potential to be the first summer hit, but it took a hit in a very literal sense. The box-office numbers are questionable, and in an earlier article, we shed some light on the situation.

And now, the question arises: can they break even?

The answer is probably NO. It is looking tough for the studio, and OTT might come out as a great escape. With such big deals, it could help it become a bit profitable.

After a theatrical run of three days, Amazon lists “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga” for its VOD release, and some sources say it will come to the VOD space as early as June 25th.

For the Indian market, although some fans showed interest, it does look like a tough road to crack when it comes to the Indian audience. Especially with something like VOD, which costs twice as much as a theater ticket, it won’t work in such a sensitive market.

Even for a global release, VOD looks like a pretty weak choice, especially for a film that needs to go wild in theaters. The IMAX market for the film has been commendable, but the non-IMAX viewership is quite low.

Will it change soon? We don’t really have an answer, but as it’s looking for an early VOD release, things do look tougher.
