gaddalakonda-ganesh-chanakya-freshly-arrived-a-mass-outing-and-a-hot-messFor those of you out there who look for Telugu content, here are two new arrivals from Telugu cinema. Gaddalakonda Ganesh starring Varun Tej and Gopichand’s Chanakya are out on streaming platforms.

Gaddalakonda Ganesh is available on Hotstar Premium/VIP. The mass entertainer directed by Harish Shankar is a remake of Tamil cult classic Jigarthanda. Varun Tej plays the role of a gangster which was originally essayed by Bobby Simha. The actor won a National Award for his performance.

With such big shoes to fill many though the young actor would fail. However, Varun Tej managed to hold his own aided wonderfully by Harish Shankar. The first half was a delight to watch despite the changes. Sadly, the second hour loses momentum. The climax especially feels rushed. But, there are parts which are engaging here as well. The music and songs picturization stands out. Pooja Hegde gets a winner here. Give it a try if you want to watch some hardcore mass entertainment.

Chanakya is a spy thriller directed by Thiru. The movie hits all the right notes on paper. It has all the tropes of the genre in place. But, as a narrative, it all fails to come together. The direction misses the mark. Still, the fast pace makes for a decent ‘fast-forward’ watch, in the second half.

There are a couple of satisfactory blocks (obviously fails on execution) that would be alright for digital viewing. There is entertainment that is also part of the narrative using the spy formula. Chanakya is available on Amazon Prime Video.
