Game of Thrones Actor Tapped For Netflix Adaptation Of ‘One Day’

The Game of Thrones star Essie Davis has joined the cast of Netflix’s upcoming adaptation of David Nicholls’ 2009 novel, One Day. She played Lady Crane in the sixth season of the prominent HBO fantasy series. Additionally, she is known for her outstanding performance in the popular Australian horror film, The Babadook.

The streaming platform has roped in the duo of Leo Woodall (The White Lotus) and Ambika Mod (This is Going to Hurt) to portray the leading characters of Dexter Matthew and Emma Morley, respectively, in the forthcoming series. Nicholls’ novel has already been adapted into the 2011 film of the same name, starring Anne Hathaway and Jim Sturgess.

The novel starts with Emma and Dexter first meeting with each other at Edinburgh University on July 15, 1988. We see the author visiting their lives and relationship on the same date in successive years in every chapter, for 20 years.

Various sources have reported that Davis will portray the character of Dexter’s mother, Alison, in the upcoming series. Patricia Clarkson played this character in the 2011 film. The actor will also be seen in Guillermo del Toro’s anthology series, Cabinet of Curiosities. She will appear in “The Murmuring” episode alongside Andrew Lincoln. The Babadook fame Jennifer Kent will helm this episode.
