‘Game of Thrones’ Prequel Movie, Series In The Works At HBO

After the phenomenal success of the fantasy drama series ‘Game of Thrones’ and its prequel show ‘House of the Dragon’, whose second season is expected to release sometime in 2024, HBO seems to be seriously considering another GOT prequel (as per Variety).

The new potential prequel series would focus on how Aegon I Targaryen conquered six out seven kingdoms of Westeros (excluding Dorne) along with his sister-wives Visenya and Rhaenys by using their army and three dragons. The events, which take place around 300 years before the events of the ‘Game of Thrones’ series, led to Aegon becoming the first King of Westeros and the first person who sat on the coveted Iron Throne. Aegon the conqueror was also the founder of the Targaryen dynasty.

However, the prequel project is currently in the initial stages of development with no writer attached yet. The search for a writer is on as HBO is apparently quite willing to move forward with the project.

Another interesting thing about the new ‘Game of Thrones’ prequel project is that there is a possibility of a movie being made first whose story would be carried forward to the prequel series. Although official confirmation is still awaited in this regard.

The ‘Game of Thrones’ and ‘House of the Dragon’ shows, which are based on George R. R. Martin’s books, are premium projects for HBO with a humongous fan base across the globe. Although several related projects were being considered previously like the ‘Bloodmoon’ and Kit Harrington’s Jon Snow spin-offs, it looks like HBO is treading forward carefully as it may not want to disappoint fans by hastily capitalizing on the wrong project. So, now, it would be interesting to see which ‘Game of Thrones’ related projects are greenlit by HBO in the near future.
