‘Game of Thrones’ Star Joins Colin Firth in HBO Max Series ‘The Staircase’

The upcoming HBO Max true crime series titled ‘The Staircase’ has an interesting addition as ‘Game of Thrones’ star Sophie Turner has joined the show’s cast, as per a recent report. Incidentally, the series would mark Sophie Turner’s return to HBO as ‘Game of Thrones’ was adapted from George R. R. Martin’s books for HBO.

The Staircase’ is reportedly a scripted telling that would revolve around the case of Michael Peterson, an American novelist who was accused of murdering his wife and the long legal battle that followed. Sophie Turner would be essaying the role of one of Michael Peterson’s adopted daughters namely Margaret Ratliff.

Michael Peterson’s case was previously also adapted by Jean-Xavier de Lestrade into the 2004 French docuseries also titled ‘The Staircase’, which got new episodes by streaming giant Netflix. The series consisted of eight episodes with a runtime of 45 minutes each.

The upcoming HBO Max series will ostensibly comprise eight episodes and is said to features actors like Colin Firth, Toni Collette, Juliette Binoche, Rosemarie DeWitt, and Parker Posey, amongst others. Colin Firth will be playing the central role of Michael Peterson. While his wife’s part will be played by Toni Collette.

Colin Firth is an Academy Award-winning actor whose earlier repertoire of work includes films such as ‘The King’s Speech’, ‘1917’, ‘A Single Man’, ‘Pride and Prejudice’, ‘Bridget Jones’s Diary’ and ‘Kingsman’ films, to name a few.

While the latest addition to the show’s cast Sophie Turner has acted in films like ‘X-Men: Dark Phoenix’, ‘Josie’, ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ besides, of course, featuring in the celebrated show ‘Game of Thrones’.

The HBO Max series ‘The Staircase’ will be directed by Antonio Campos (six episodes). Antonio Campos had earlier directed ‘Spiderman: Homecoming’ star Tom Holland in the 2020 crime thriller ‘The Devil All the Time’. Prior to that, he had directed the biographical drama ‘Christine’ starring Rebecca Hall and Michael C. Hall (‘Dexter’).
