Gangubai Kathiawadi Vs Radhe Shyam 30th July BO Clash: Who Has The Upper Hand?

By Binged Bureau - Feb 26, 2021 @ 02:02 pm

With so many titles getting announced almost every other day, movie goers are surely going to be spoilt for choices in the coming months. Back to back theatrical release dates are getting revealed and in such a case, clashes at the box office are an inevitable outcome. The clash that we are going to talk about here is one of the biggest in the coming time : Alia Bhatt‘s ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ vs Prabhas’ ‘Radhe Shyam’.

Both the films are set to release in theatres on 30th July and are sure to set the box off on fire. No matter if it is, Gangubai Kathiawadi’ or ‘Radhe Shyam’, both have much to be talked about, from their high-profile cast and crew, amazing visuals and storyline to the anticipation among the viewers. So let’s begin and see which of these big titles has an upper hand!

Star cast:

In ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi‘, while Alia Bhatt plays the titular role of Gangubai, Shantanu Maheshwari, Vijay Raaz, Indira Tiwari and Seema Pahwa play supporting roles. The film also has special appearances by noted actors like Ajay Devgn, Emraan Hashmi and Huma Qureshi. Alia has given several hits and is one of the most sought after actress in the industry. With ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ she has gone for a completely different avatar and is rocking it extremely well, as seen in the teaser.

Talking about Radhe Shyam, the film features Prabhas and Pooja Hegde in the lead roles. Krishnam Raju, Bhagyashree, Kunaal Roy Kapur, Sachin Khedekar, Priyadarshi Pulikonda, Murali Sharma, Sathyan will be seen in supporting roles. Ever since ‘Baahubali’, Prabhas has become a pan-India star with a huge fan following, who grab on every opportunity to get a glimpse of his charming personality.

Hence, both films get equal points as for their respective lead stars.

Crew:

‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ is helmed by the legendary Sanjay Leela Bhansali, who is know for his class apart works. His previous credits include ‘Black’, ‘Devdas’, ‘Padmavat’ and many more. Bhansali has written the film alongwith Utkarshini Vashishtha (‘Sarbjit’). Sanchit Balhara and Ankit Balhara have composed the score and songs have been done by Bhansali himself. Cinematography has been handled by Sudeep Chatterjee (‘Padmaavat’, ‘Bajirao Mastani’, ‘Dhoom 3’, ‘Chak De India’) and Akiv Ali (‘Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai’, ‘Kites’) has done the editing. The film has been produced by Bhansali Productions and Pen India Limited.

As for ‘Radhe Shyam’, it has been written and directed by Radha Krishna Kumar (‘Jil’). Kumar has worked as an assistant director under filmmaker Chandra Sekhar Yeleti for the films ‘Anukokunda Oka Roju’, ‘Okkadunnadu’, ‘Prayanam’, ‘Sahasam’. Film’s score has been done by Justin Prabhakaran who along with Mithoon and Manan Bhardwaj have handled the music for the film. Kotagiri Venkateswara Rao, who has numerous title to his credits, has done the editing and Manoj Paramahamsa has done Radhe Shyam’s cinematography. UV Creations and T-Series are the production companies behind the film.

+1 surely goes to Gangubai Kathiawadi for crew mainly because of the iconic Sanjay Leela Bhansali.

Plot:

‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ is a biographical drama based on a chapter of Hussain Zaidi’s book Mafia Queens of Mumbai about Gangubai Kothewali, the madam of a brothel in Kamathipura. The film follows her story as she rises to power and becomes a politician later in life, all on her own grit and determination. The film is about a strong woman who despite all adversities came out victorious.

‘Radhe Shyam’, on the other hand, is a romantic drama set in Europe of 1970s. Reportedly, Prabhas plays the role a fortune teller and Pooja plays the role of a princess in the film. It is also said that the storyline will show the conflict between science and astrology. All this suggest a mystical feel that has been set by the teaser and posters of the movie too.

Again, both the films stand equally in the plot category, given that Indian audience loves both biographical and romantic dramas in equal measures.

Buzz :

Well, both films up until now have had a tight race and this category is not much of an exception. But one cannot deny that India is a country where male protagonists surpass female ones many a times. Similar can happen in case of Gangubai Kathiawadi and Radhe Shyam, given the massive fan following of Prabhas. Not only that, ever since Sushant Singh Rajput’s death many star kids including Alia Bhatt have been pulled into the nepotism debate, impacting their films in turn. Another thing that works in Radhe Shyam’s favour is that it is releasing in both Telugu and Hindi, while Gangubai Kathiawadi will release only in Hindi, thus increasing the former’s reach among the audience.

Definitely a +1 for Radhe Shyam when considering the buzz among the audience.

So, all in all we have a tie between ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ and ‘Radhe Shyam’ and it would be very difficult to say which one will have an upper hand when they release in theatres on 30th July.
