‘Gargi’ Makes a Well-Deserved Debut on Letterboxd Top Films List

Sai Pallavi’s latest film ‘Gargi’ has successfully entered the second week of its theatrical run and the intense legal drama is unanimously being hailed by critics and audiences alike. In yet another accolade, ‘Gargi’ has now made a stunning and well-deserved debut on the top 50 international narrative feature films list on the Auckland-based movies-centric social platform Letterboxd.

Helmed by Gautham Ramachandran, ‘Gargi’ currently holds a highly impressive 16th rank on the coveted Letterboxd list comprising top 50 feature films (excluding documentary films) released in the year 2022 from across the globe.

The two Indian movies which are currently ahead of ‘Gargi’ on the Letterboxd list are the Kamal Haasan starrer ‘Vikram’ (Rank 11) and S.S Rajamouli’s period actioner ‘RRR’ (Rank 4). Besides, other Indian films on the list are Achal Mishra’s ‘Dhuin’ (Rank 20), Malayalam thriller ‘Pada’ (Rank 23), comedy drama ‘Badhaai Do’ (Rank 27), rom-com ‘Ante Sundaraniki’ (Rank 40), Amitabh Bachchan starrer sports drama ‘Jhund’ (Rank 42), and the critically acclaimed police training drama ‘Taanakkaran’ (Rank 49).

The coveted Letterboxd list has been topped by the widely acclaimed multiverse action flick ‘Everything Everywhere All at Once’ while blockbusters ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ and ‘The Batman’ have secured 3rd and 6th ranks, respectively.

Coming back to ‘Gargi’, the film’s basic plotline follows the titular schoolteacher Gargi (essayed by Sai Pallavi), who is all geared up to get married soon. Her father Brahmanandam (RS Shivaji) is employed as a security guard in a housing society. One day, when her father does not return home, Gargi learns that he has been wrongfully accused in a sexual assault case of a minor. Gargi’s ensuing legal battle to prove her father’s innocence forms the rest of the film’s plot. The film will start streaming soon on the SonyLIV OTT platform.
