German Thriller Film ‘Blood Red Sky’ Sets A New Netflix Record!

Recently released German film, ‘Blood Red Sky’ has set a new streaming record at Netflix. The film has become the most-watched German content ever for Netflix, inclusive of both films and shows. Upwards of 50 million Netflix subscribers across the world have streamed Blood Red Sky in the twenty days since its release on Netflix.

Not only that, the unusual supernatural thriller and plane hijack drama made it to Netflix’s Top Ten list in 93 countries across the world. Blood Red Sky hit the number one spot in the Netflix Top Ten in 57 countries out of those 93 countries. The figures unequivocally prove that Blood Red Sky has been a smash hit for the streaming giant.

The stunning streaming figures for Blood Red Sky mean that the film has broken the records set by Netflix’s previous German hit, the German language series titled ‘Barbarians’. Another noteworthy point about Blood Red Sky is that more than 90% of the record 50 million + households that streamed Blood Red Sky watched the film in its entirety, from start to finish.

We all know that Netflix stats are notoriously ambiguous in this area – if a Netflix subscriber watches a title for even two minutes, Netflix counts it as a view. The streamer works on the premise that two minutes is “long enough to indicate that the choice was intentional”. This gives very skewed information regarding how many subscribers actually watched a title in the true sense of the term.

But that is not so in the case of Blood Red Sky. It is a significant stat that more than 90% subscribers watched the whole movie, significant in proving that Blood Red Sky is indeed a legit hit for Netflix.

Other Netflix Originals in German that proved to be hits for the platform are Dark, Biohackers, Barbarians, How To Sell Drugs Online (Fast), Unorthodox, Tribes of Europa, among others.
