Kajol’s much-awaited digital debut, ‘Devi’, makes its way to our screens this March, the month that is devoted to women’s empowerment, courtesy International Women’s Day that falls on 8th March. We even have a date of release for the short film, as revealed by the makers, LargeShortFilms, today, and it is 2nd March.
The trailer of ‘Devi’ was released today on social media along with the release date, and by the looks of it, the film promises to be a powerful and engaging drama on the vagaries of womanhood, the nuances of which can best be understood by members of the fairer sex.
Devi is the story of nine women, all from diverse class and generation, who are brought together by circumstances to form an ‘unusual sisterhood’.
Though the trailer doesn’t reveal much of the story or how the nine women come together, it does give us a glimpse into the psyche of women – they may bicker or banter, but when it comes to giving strength to one of their own ilk, they rally together like bees in a honeycomb.
The trailer also leaves one with no doubt that it is Kajol’s character that plays the driving force behind bringing the other eight women together. She says something that gives us a hint to the narrative – all the nine women are there in that place and at that moment, because they’re running away from something or someone – and have come together in a predominantly fearful state. Her statement, which comes right at the end of the trailer, only serves to heighten the sense of intrigue.
Kajol, Shruti Haasan, Neha Dhupia, Neena Kulkarni, Mukta Barve, Sandhya Mhatre, Rama Joshi, Shivani Raghuvanshi, and Yashaswini Dayama are the nine women that make up the motley bunch. Devi is directed by Priyanka Banerjee and produced by Electric ApplesEntertainment, Niranjan Iyengar and Ryan Ivan Stephen.
Devi premieres on YouTube on 2nd March. In the meanwhile, have a glimpse of the trailer here –
