Superhero genre has always been underutilized in Indian entertainment industry. While there have been some attempts here and there but that too gave low outcomes. It’s not like that there is less inspiration of characters from India, but no one is willing to take risk and produce an original superhero story. And this has lead to a huge void in the mentioned genre.
But since bollywood is a known place for practicing mob mentality, in the upcoming years there is going to be a lot of actors and actresses venturing into the Superhero genre. Almost all the top tier stars are looking forward in donning the suit and protecting people. ‘Mumbai Mirror’ recently reported upto 8 stars who are venturing into the genre and it seems like finally bollywood is going all in with the superhero genre.
1. Hrithik Roshan
Well well well, whenever we talk about Indian superheroes, Krrish definitely pops up into our minds and why wouldn’t he? People have lived through the Krrish franchise and are connected with it deeply, and hence the makers have decided to cash into this nostalgia and bring back the fan favourite alien of Indian cinema – Jadoo. Yes the bluish friend of ours who got his strength from the Sun will be coming back in the fourth film of the franchise. It is believed that Krrish 4 is currently in the scripting stage.
2. Ajay Devgn
Ajay Devgn upcoming flick with director Shiv Rawali is being touted as a superhero movie which will be laden high with VFX. It is being reported that Ajay is all set to play a negative character in the film.
3. Ranbir Kapoor
Ranbir Kapoor’s much awaited movie Brahmastra, which was announced way back in 2014 is still in production. After several delay in releases, the Ayan Mukherjee’s epic spectacle will eye a release in 2021. The star studded movie is based on the Indian mythology and Ranbir will be seen playing the character of Shiva who is looking for the infamous Brahmastra. He will be battling Mouni Roy who is in a negative avatar.
4. Ranveer Singh
2020 was nothing short of drama and when Ali Abbas Zafar announced his upcoming film titled Mr. India, there were talks regarding whether the movie is a reboot of the 1987 cult classic or a sequel. But the makers have confirmed that the movie is an original story with the perfect blend of science fiction as well as superpowers.
5. John Abraham
The handsome hunk of bollywood JA, who recently turned 48, is in talks regarding the Rakshak adaptation by Sanjay Gupta. The comic book Rakshak features the titular vigilante who has seen the worst of humanity and is looking to make the world a better place. The character himself is an ex Indian army marine who has lost a limb but is dedicated towards bringing people to justice.
6. Kartik Aaryan
Kartik Aaryan too is a looking to try a different genre now and will be seen in Vasan Bala’s adaptation of the Phantom comics. The titular character is from a fictional country called Bangalla where there is a myth regarding “The Ghost Who Walks”, a powerful guardian for the innocent and fighter against the injustice.
7. Katrina Kaif
Katrina Kaif is all set to become India’s first “superwoman” as her superhero movie with Ali Abbas Zafar is all set to go into production in the coming months. We’ll be seeing Kaif in a different avatar performing lots of action. The movie is apparently titled “Super Soldier”.
8. Vicky Kaushal
The actor-director duo which pumped the whole nation with “Josh” in Uri The Surgical Strike will be seen together again in the superhero action drama set in present times but having its roots connected to the ancient Mahabharata. Vicky will be seen playing the role of Ashwatthama who was given the boon of immortality.
It’s great how the makers are eyeing the Indian epics such as Mahabharata and Ramayana to take inspirations from the characters and making a story around them. It will be a pleasure seeing these content whenever they release!
