31-year old Jonathan Majors has been tapped to play a major role in the next Ant-man movie. Although there hasn’t been any official confirmation yet, sources close to the project has said that he is likely to play the super-villain ‘Kang the Conqueror’. Marvel studios have been known to take liberties with their characters in the past, but it looks like ‘Kang’ is set to be the main antagonist in the upcoming installment of the Ant-man series.
‘Kang the Conqueror’ is a character who has the ability to time travel with multiple versions of Kang existing in multiple parallel universes (also dubbed the ‘multi-verse’). He is also primarily an Avengers villain in the comics and controls the timeline, so perhaps he might be coming to the Ant-man franchise to catch the first person who time travelled in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). This could mean like Loki, Kang could be a primary villain for the Avengers; who got adopted from a branching franchise to the primary one. This is good news for both Marvel fans and the actor who is very likely to portray him, Jonathan Majors.
Coming off fresh after the production of the new web-series Lovecraft Country (currently airing), Jonathan Majors has also recently starred in Da 5 Bloods, where he portrays a son of one of the members of an army unit who returns to Vietnam to search for their gold and fallen troop leader. He has been praised for his roles in both projects as well as in the 2019 drama The Last Black Man in San Francisco.
Jeff Loveness is writing the script for Ant-man 3 currently, with Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige and Peyton Reed returning as producer and director respectively.
