The upcoming Godzilla series for AppleTV+ is ready to become another spectacular addition to the MonsterVerse franchise. Apart from this project, an anime-styled Netflix series about the mythical Skull Island is also in the works. AppleTV+ recently released the official plot synopsis of its forthcoming Godzilla instalment. Let’s have a look at it!
The new MonsterVerse series takes place after the events of the 2014 Godzilla movie, “Following the thunderous battle between Godzilla and the Titans that levelled San Francisco and the shocking new reality that monsters are real, the series explores one family’s journey to uncover its buried secrets and a legacy linking them to the secret organization known as Monarch.”
It seems clear that the forthcoming MonsterVerse entry will not serve as a sequel to the last year’s epic battle between Godzilla and Kong. This Kaiju project is set between the events of Godzilla (2014) and Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019). As you can see here, there is a five-year gap between these projects. Yes, Kong: Skull Island (2017) was a solid addition to the entire franchise. But it failed to bridge the gap between the two Godzilla movie projects. The new Kaiju series may do the same after its release.
In January, AppleTV+ chose Chris Black as the showrunner for the upcoming Godzilla series. On the other hand, the creative duo of Brian Duffield and Jacob Robinson will helm the Skull Island anime series for Netflix.
