Godzilla Minus One Sequel: Director Gives A Disappointing Update

Godzilla Minus One is indeed one of the best, if not the best, Godzilla movies of all time. Still earning acclaim from critics and audiences from across the globe, Minus One has also become the highest-rated Godzilla movie on Rotten Tomatoes, with a staggering 98% ‘fresh’ rating (based on 170 reviews). In addition, it has minted over $100 million globally. We should not be surprised if Toho announces a sequel soon. However, director Takashi Yamazaki has given a disappointing update about this scenario.

According to ComicBook, Yamazaki recently had an interview with the well-known Japanese publication HJ Web about the Godzilla Minus One sequel. When asked about the sequel, the director replied: “there is no such talk at all.”

Check out Takashi Yamazaki’s complete statement:

“No, no, there is no such talk at all. But I might be a little sad if someone else is chosen to direct the next Godzilla movie. When someone says, “This is the person who will direct the next Godzilla,” I think, “Ah!” And when someone says, “Please do it,” I think, “Ah!”

While Toho is yet to announce a sequel, Takashi Yamazaki must have a story or an idea for a story in his mind for the second part, considering how Godzilla Minus One concluded. Plus, the first film’s growing global prominence and impressive profits may make the sequel more bankable.

Written and directed by Takashi Yamazaki, Godzilla Minus One came out in theatres worldwide on November 3. It stars Ryunosuke Kamiki, Minami Hamabe, Yuki Yamada, Munetaka Aoki, Sakura Ando, and Kuranosuke Sasaki. The film was a joint production of Toho and Robot Communications. Stay tuned for more updates.
